TI Messenger with interface for AI and bot systems
Patients benefit
Data is processed in the secure T-Cloud
Telekom continues to drive the digitalization of the healthcare sector. The Bonn-based telecommunications company is introducing the TI-Messenger—a secure and interoperable communication solution—to hospitals. The service enables direct, data-protection-compliant coordination between nursing staff, physicians, and external service providers. Information is shared in real time, improving workflows and saving time in daily clinical operations.
"With the TI-Messenger, we are taking healthcare communication to a new level. Hospitals benefit from faster coordination and reduced communication overhead—advantages that ultimately benefit patients," says Uwe Heckert, COO T Health. "Whether it’s obtaining a quick second opinion on an ultrasound or clarifying a medication query, the TI-Messenger eliminates long wait times through rapid, real-time messaging."
Group chats enable quick decision-making.
The TI-Messenger is the interoperable messaging service for the Telematics Infrastructure. It enables the secure transmission of text messages, photos, documents, and voice messages. Telekom is both the manufacturer and provider of the solution. The service is delivered as Software-as-a-Service, eliminating the need for on-site installation. "This relieves the burden on IT, and the system stays constantly up to date thanks to automated updates," explains Heckert. Access is easily managed via a desktop PC browser or mobile devices, and integration with existing systems is possible. Chat groups facilitate rapid team coordination, offering immediate benefits in daily hospital operations: the emergency department can clarify bed occupancy with wards in real time, and a night-shift nurse can report an elevator failure directly via the TI-Messenger, instantly notifying all night-shift colleagues through a group chat. Integration of bots and AI systems via a dedicated interface: "We designed our version of the TI-Messenger to allow for the seamless integration of bots or AI systems," says Heckert. For instance, hospitals can integrate a duty-roster bot to answer questions like "Who is on duty at Ward 3 tomorrow?" or a knowledge bot that provides information on demand—such as the phone number for the endoscopy unit or the procedure for transferring a patient to the intensive care unit. The AI generates these answers based on stored hospital guidelines.
Communication with physicians providing follow-up care
The TI-Messenger also improves collaboration across sectoral boundaries. In discharge management, follow-up questions can be clarified directly with physicians providing ongoing care. The process of handing over care becomes easier, and the coordination of medical findings between the parties involved is faster. This results in seamless and efficient processes.
The TI-Messenger reduces administrative effort by cutting down on phone calls and breaks in the information flow. Decisions are made more quickly, and the quality of care improves.
Element Server Suite Pro as a base
The technological foundation is the Element Server Suite Pro, a partner solution from Telekom. This serves as the backend for Matrix-based communication. The solution offers high security and is used by governments and the military alike. It delivers high performance and is both resilient and scalable, making it suitable for deployment in large institutions as well as smaller hospitals.
The close collaboration with Element—the company behind the Matrix standard—is a unique feature within the TI Messenger landscape. "No other TI Messenger provider is supported by the developers of the Matrix standard while simultaneously offering an ISO-certified backend in a sovereign cloud," says Uwe Heckert.
Sovereignty and security from a single source
The product, operations, maintenance, and updates are all provided by a single source. Deployment takes place via T-Cloud’s Open Sovereign Cloud. All data is processed exclusively in Germany. The data centers are certified to ISO 27001, BSI C5, and DIN EN 50600 standards. This ensures that digital communication within the healthcare sector remains secure and sovereign. Telekom is a manufacturer and provider of the TI-Messenger approved by gematik. Thanks to the gematik standard, all healthcare stakeholders can communicate across sectors—and with insured individuals—regardless of which TI-Messenger provider they use.
